Suicide and the Squad
On a lazy Sunday morning, a loud alarm buzzed on Sue's bedside. Tossing and turning the three other girls yelled together, "Jezz! Sue turn it off..". Slowly, the girls managed to brush and sat on their beds still snuggled up in their PJ's and stuffed teddy bears. Poor Sunshine, not even a ray of it could escape past the blinds in their bedrooms. The only light that illuminated the dark room was from their tiny rectangular smart phones. All of a sudden, Betty bounced in her bed and shot straight up and peeled the blinds open. Flabbergasted by the immense incandescence, the girls buried themselves beneath their blankets.
Deb's voice echoed "Why oh Why Betty! Let the royal vampire ladies lounge".
"Oh shut up Deb, the room is not supposed to be gloomy on this wonderful day! Now, get your lazy butts up and get ready, for the greatest long ride of your lives" grinned Betty.
Mel was so lost in thought, that Sue literally had to slap her and repeat what Betty said.
Betty pushed the gas pedal hard with her high heels, the girls took off in a red convertible, burning rubber on the southern highway. The radio was on, giggles, teasing, waving and hollering at random strangers were all the typical things Mel expected would happen and it did. She rested her arm on the car door and stared into the empty space with wisps of her hair covering the silent tears.
"Stop PMSing Mel, enjoy the ride for god's sake!" blurted Deb chewing her gum.
"I'm Not! Leave me alone" Mel whispered.
They stopped at the most beautiful point on the mountain. "It's Selfie time Yo!" hollered Betty, and Deb and Sue started making duck faces with Betty and clicked almost a zillion pictures.
Mel silently sneaked out and stood at the tip of a sharp rock at the end of the cliff. The beautiful blue sky, cottony white clouds, the lush green trees and tiny houses far off and the endless horizon forced her to admire nature. Suddenly Mel smiled through her tears and thanked God for the beauty before she is going to take her own life. Mel closed her eyes and every damn thing made her hate her life even more. The pointless self-help books, stupid break-up fights, burden of student loans, too scared to quit a job you hate, envying others life by checking facebook and instagram on repeat, owning a ton of make up, getting married with dreadful doubts and not lovely vows, struggling to raise kids, Schizophrenia and all the ugly regrets were tattooed in the back of her mind. She convinced herself that she is not dying because she is in depression, but rather with deep reasoning. Instead of being bipolar, I'll just happily end my life and rest in the cosmic current, thought Mel. Her palms were sweaty and she felt like puking. But she reminded herself that none of this is going to matter in a few seconds. Her thoughts polluted her soul, it not only intoxicated her mind, but completely paralyzed her kinesthetic movement.
She could sense her eyes were bloodshot and her nerves were splitting open. Numb, she mocked the nature, I did not jump off yet, why am I feeling that I am dying already. If you have so much power just show me your supernatural ability, she scoffed at the nature. In a split second, a tiny rain drop fell precisely between her eyebrows. It possessed all the electro-magnetic energy in the world. She felt her body vibrated with the rhythm of the universe. The symptoms of her body were inexplicable, she understood that she gained invisible superpowers to embrace changes in life. This energy seeped into her bloodstream and her mind reached a state of tranquillity. Just like the Nuclear Fission, she saw herself, a single entity split into two different entities. I can be the Altruist or the Narcissist, Yes-man or the Naysayer, Leader or a Rebel, saint or a sinner....The fuzzy memories exploded like fireworks and the sparks of the new found form portrayed eternal happiness. Her head started spinning and all her thoughts with the new entities formed a Yin-Yang. When she opened her eyes, a giant holographic projection of Yin-Yang was radiating energy.
"So, No suicide? Lol" quipped Sue placing her cold hand on Mel's shoulder.
"Nah! No SUICIDE, Let's CHOOSE SIDES Sue", replied Mel merrily.
