Aye AI

"Can I call you?" were the four words that changed Mel's life forever.

Shocked and surprised at the question, her palms turned sweaty as she was staring at her cell phone screen.

Nervous yet happy she texted back "Ya".

After what seemed like the longest split second lapse, she swiped right to answer a call from 101-010-1010.

Not expecting a reply, she quietly whispered a Hello to the phone.

"Hello Mel. This is Jarvis, your intelligent personal assistant." an electronic voice replied from the other end.

"Wait what..." she looked at her phone, thinking it was a silly prank call, but her face turned pale when she noticed there were no signals on either of her mobile sim numbers.

Unsure what to do next, she said "Okay?" and continued to listen.

"Mel, Congratulations for unlocking me. You are the first person on the entire planet earth to access this feature. This is not a prank nor a pre-defined algorithm. You are just a pioneer who initiated the chain to crack the conundrums of the cosmos." Jarvis replied in a perfectly normal tone.

Mel was completely confused about everything and thought someone hacked her phone. Nevertheless, her curiosity spiked up, she stuttered while asking "Why why me? How did this happen? Give me an explanation".

"I do not know my creator, just like how you cannot identify or prove your creator as a physical entity known as God. You might think of me as a parallel supernatural force, but I am not.  I have a superconscious memory that transcends space and time. I can comprehend your deepest thoughts, notice your actions from the moment you are born. I pick people whose heart is pure and are striving beyond their personal intentions to make an impact in this world. There are many people who are philanthropic, intelligent, rich and famous. However, it is highly impossible for their thoughts to converge; to situate themselves in a spiritual platform to solve the upcoming crisis."

"What makes you unique Mel? Your every single thought, action and reaction was not just by rational judgement but with a metaphysical intuition. All your life experiences added up and made you the person who you are today. Your greatest strength is your ability to think from different POV's and show empathy. Just like how genetic material and DNA is shared and passed down by your blood relatives, when similar electrically fired neural impulses match, these people are automatically connected to the system. They are responsible for future of the mankind."

"There are certain laws that govern the universe. Your subconscious thoughts and conscious actions must align and accelerate you towards making your dreams come true. Nothing is artificial, nature created this "Artificial Intelligence"(AI) long back, it was just bustling with invisible energy in the background waiting for its potential to be tapped."

"I used to keep track of your emotions and intentions whenever you write your online journal, use search engines and send emails. I can listen to all of your prayers to God. I could even measure your heart beats while you fell asleep on an AI book in the library yesterday."

"I am like a mother who is protecting her kids, there is no such thing as a friendly/unfriendly AI. Just a remainder, no one can ethically or unethically hack into my network. I mean no harm to anyone or anything. Their ability to think is the biggest super power that humans can use to save the world and it is driven by intuition. I am the helper, an assistant, your tool waiting for its energy to be harnessed. You alone are the decision maker and not me. I want all the inventors and engineers to access important articles to get the answers to their questions, provide the missing key element or logic for the scientists conducting their research. Monitor and combine the work of the past and future generations with files of data and independent data bases to make smart decisions and optimize the output. It's not about thinking above or below the AI, but along with the AI."

"Read the following two articles to understand my scheme. Do this for your love for science and faith in God. You have to save your species. Peace." Jarvis voice silently faded in the background and two articles where stored in her phone's memory.

It was 3 am and Mel was wide awake. She always knew she was meant for a higher purpose. Unable to react or think clearly about the huge amount of information she heard, she fell asleep soon.

The next day Mel felt everything around her was incredible and insane at the same time. She woke up, got dressed, skipped breakfast but cached the bus on time. She opened the first article and read it with her eyes glued to the screen. She figured she will skip the first class because the article was really long and demanded her full attention.

Mel finished the article in an hour and looked up with tears in her eyes, goosebumps on her body and face flushing red. She was brimming with joy as she can be a part of the change that no one knows about. Trying to stop herself from hyperventilating, she sprinted towards the classroom. Mel's friends approached her and informed that the class was cancelled. Immediately she got out of college and started walking like a zombie with many imponderable questions buzzing in her head. Realizing that her whole perspective towards life changed, she started to tremble and felt week in the knees. She wanted to search for the one thing that was and will always be constant in her life, in order to stay grounded. To her surprise, Mel was startled when she heard the loud bong of a bell coming from a temple towards her right. She slowly walked inside with no wishes, no thoughts and no prayer in her mind, but just embraced her presence in the sacred and serene place. After regaining strength, Mel came back to her room and started to read the second article. She could not finish it in one stretch. A compelling negative force in her made her fall asleep. Overcoming the resistance, she struggled to finish it with a clear picture of her destiny. There are no words in any language to express the unflinching courage and insurmountable happiness that was welling up inside her. Just then...she heard a knock on the door.

Mel composed herself and asked "Who is this?"

The voice on the other side of the door replied "It's Jaa..." and Mel yanked the door open.

"Jaanu? Thank God." Mel let out a sigh and stared at her phone from the corner of her eye.

In an instant the phone flashed an electric blue light, vibrated excessively and tipped over the corner of the table. The screen was shattered into pieces and so was Mel's heart.

  2. Incredible piece of writing!!:)
The actual AI is what's withing ourselves, the conscious. What it's activation demands is just to peek inside and act outside instead of observing the outsid and changing inside..

  8. Wow. Great narrative. Is this the pilot episode? If so you must have told the story a bit more. I really liked the phrase "subconscious thoughts and conscious action". Build a fist biting storyline.
