Mom, why do I have to graduate? Dad, why do I have to grow up? Dad, why do I have to leave? 

Mom, why don't you write more often? Dad, why do I miss my old friends? Dad, why do you love me so much? Dad, why do you spoil me? Your little girl is growing up. Mom, why don't you visit? Mom, why is it hard to make new friends? Dad, why do I miss being at home?

Dad, why does my heart skip a beat when he looks in my eyes? Mom, why do my legs tremble when I hear his voice? Mother, why is being "in love" the greatest feeling in the world?

Daddy, why don't you like to be called "Gramps"? Mother, why do my baby's tiny fingers cling so tightly to mine?

Mother, why do they have to grow up? Daddy, why do they have to leave? Why do I have to be called "Grannie"?

Mommie, Daddy why did you have to leave me? I need you.

Why did my youth slip past me? Why does my face show every smile that I have ever given to a friend or a stranger? Why does my hair glisten a shiny silver?

Why do my hands quiver when I bend to pick a flower? Why, God are the roses red?

Life is not always based on the answers we receive, but also on the questions that we ask.. "

Mel turned the page of her journal as a tear rolled down her cheek. She traced the faded archaic blue ink with her fingertips and had a mini flashback to when she was 17.

On a hot mid-summer afternoon, Mel slouched on her couch and was gleefully finishing up the book 'Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul'. She started reading a new chapter and all of a sudden she dropped her book in mid-air and sprinted to get her journal.

Mel was back in a flash, trying not to trip on her own feet pulled her hair up into a messy bun, and  grabbed a pen. She scribbled the entire thing in such a frenzy. Every single question she ever had was written by this teenager on the other side of the world. This is it. I feel complete and connected. I am different but there lies a definite meaning to all my curious queries. The sheer will to ask with awe makes me special, while the world is congested with people who have short attention spans. 

She imagined how they would be the greatest pen pals in the whole world if they started exchanging emails and letters. Mel shrieked with happiness and was super excited to start college.

Laughing at the old memories, Mel was now ready to graduate college in a couple of months. She realized how little did she change in 5 years. She met amazing people from different cultures and backgrounds with big ideas and dreams. She synced with some and did not at all with the rest, no matter how hard she tried. They made her acknowledge the precious and peculiar persona that she has.

She smiled as she wrote a simile at the corner of her journal. "Questions and Quotes are as large as life."
